Swim Ops

Accessibility statement

Swim Ops is built for volunteer-run clubs, which means boards, members, and staff of every age and ability. We want this website, and the Swim Ops platform behind it, to be usable by everyone, including people who rely on assistive technology.

Our target for this website is WCAG 2.2 level AA. We are not yet claiming full conformance; this page says what we actually do, and how to tell us when something falls short.

What this site does

Practices already in place on swimops.io:

  • Semantic HTML with landmark regions, labeled navigation, and a heading structure that reads in order
  • A skip-to-content link as the first focusable element
  • Full keyboard operability, including the fee calculator, with visible focus styles
  • Text alternatives on meaningful images; decorative graphics are hidden from screen readers
  • No autoplaying media, no motion that cannot be ignored, no time limits, and no cookie walls
  • Content that reflows for small screens and browser zoom

What we have not done yet

We test with keyboard navigation and browser accessibility tooling as we build. A formal third-party audit has not yet been performed on this site or on the platform, and a number of color combinations on both, placeholder text, input borders, and the primary orange button on this site, do not currently meet AA contrast thresholds. We would rather tell you that than claim a conformance level we have not earned.

The Swim Ops platform

We audited the member portal and admin surfaces in September 2026 and would rather report what it found than summarize it kindly. Semantic markup and keyboard operability are broadly good across the platform. Labeling and status announcement are not yet uniform: some forms shipped controls a screen reader could not name, and some status changes were not announced at all. The ones that blocked a member or an administrator outright have been fixed; the rest are tracked as product defects, not polish, and a full conformance evaluation is still ahead of us rather than behind us.

Club-authored content, newsletters, CMS pages, uploaded documents, remains each club's own. We should be plain that the platform does not yet help as much as it should here: when a club adds an image to one of its own pages, the alternative text is filled in from the file's name and there is no way to edit it, which is not a description of the image. Until an author can write that text, we are not going to claim we hand clubs accessible defaults to start from. That is ours to fix.
